Fun Ideas for Boys in Collin County

including Allen, Frisco, McKinney, and Plano

Are your boys telling you they're bored? Are your boys spending too much time in front of the screen? Well, we've boy-tested these really great ideas for some out-of-the-box ideas to keep your son busy this summer and any time he's looking for something to do with his friends.

Because it is easy to blow the budget when trying to keep your boys busy, we've tried to select the value-priced options even if there are similar opportunities at higher prices.

And just because we have these ideas listed for boys doesn't mean the girls wouldn't have fun, too!

Animal Encounters for Boys and Girls:

Becky's Hope Horse Rescue
$$
214.918.6508
Home to the world-famous rescue horse, Bubbles, who decided he'd rather ride home to Becky's Hope than be die the next day. (Why could blame him?) Don't let the name throw you, in addition to Bubbles and other rescues, the kind-hearted folks at this horse rescue also provide safe harbor to pigmy goats, pot bellied pigs, chickens, donkeys, and miniature horses--even a duck. Visitors are invited to pet the animals. They also rely on volunteers to help care for the animals, so if your son loves animals, this would be a great place for him to volunteer. Sue Chapman (President) advised us on our tour that while they ask for a donation of $10 to buy a bale of hay, they won't turn away anyone who wants to love on their animals. And there is LOTS of open space for your boys to RUN. REMEMBER: Wear closed-toe shoes or you won't be permitted to enter.

Well, it's free to visit, but if your son convinces you to bring home a new pet, there is an adoption fee. This is always a highlight of the day for our boys--and their sisters, too! There are usually livestock kept outdoors: horses, donkeys and mules within easy view at the fence line, and we're told other barnyard animals are held behind the main building.

Top Golf for boys

Golfing for Families:

Driving Range

Top Golf, Allen
$$$-$$$$
469.675.9730
Our boys loved driving balls and hanging out like the big boys. Each player buys a membership card (last check $5) and you rent the bay by the hour, which varies based on their high-traffic hours. In the summer, they have a "half-off for kids" before 11:00am, so the boys could drive balls for an hour for a $10 bay rental (membership card still $5 if they don't already have one).
1500 Andrews Parkway, Allen

Mini Golf for Families

Adventure Landing, Plano
$$$$$
972.248.4653
Waterfalls, lush landscaping and three 18-hole mini golf courses will keep you all entertained. The price key we used is for a package which includes additional attractions at this fun center. BOGO coupons are often available on their website as well as special promotions.
17717 Coit Rd, Plano

Jumping Children:

Cosmic Jump, Allen
$$$$
214.383.1400
Dodge ball was the biggest hit here although they had a great time with free jumping, too!
1300 Central Expressway North, Allen

Paddle Boating for Kids:

Towne Lake Recreation Area, McKinney
$$
972.542.4865
This is one of the few places in town where you can enjoy paddle boating and fishing on this 22-acre lake. You'll need a fishing license and you won't be able to swim in this lake, but there are horseshoe pits, a disc golf course, a playground, a covered picnic pavilion, and restrooms.
1405 Wilson Creek Pkwy, McKinney

Tree Climbing for Families:

Go Ape Tree Top Adventure, Plano
$$$$$
You know those days when you just HAVE to get them into an adventure because, frankly, their driving you crazy? Well, let them burn off some of that testosterone and show one another what they're really made of--while climbing through the tree tops!
